MACSPRO Welcomes Four New Pei

Since our update in October, Ella, MaiMai, Adonis, and Ace have joined the crew at MACSPRO.

Ella has been in & out of a few foster homes and is looking for a furever home to settle down in.   She’s very scared right now and needs an experienced Shar Pei owner to help her relax and trust people again.  She is 6 yrs old & spayed, UTD on all shots. Ella is warming up to everyone and is a real nice little girl.   She is a perfect apartment sized dog! She loves playing with toys! She is still looking for her foster/forever family.

Bonnie's Emergency Vet Visit

Bonnie initially had some demodectic mites from Illinois.  This is typically treated with liquid ivermectin to kill the mites.  Unfortunately, she is allergic to ivermectin, which led to an Emergency Veterinary visit.  Over the weekend Bonnie was closely monitored and treated with intravenous lipid emulsion in addition to supportive care with IV fluid therapy and cardiovascular, respiratory, and neurologic monitoring.  Monday morning we received this update from her amazing foster family:

She was released from the Emergency vet center Sunday Afternoon. The vet said they had to do three IV treatments to get the toxins out of her.  That's a lot considering she only weighs 23 pounds.  While still a little wobbly, and very tired, she was walking upright, and her temporary blindness had gone away.  I had a couple of her toys in the truck for the 50 mile drive home, and she eagerly started chewing on a bone.  About 10 minutes into the trip she curled up and took a nap with her head on my leg.

She clearly remembered her home and her roommate, Oreo (the Cocker Spaniel) and (as is typical) inhaled her dinner.  She went for a walk last night, but she's moving really slow, and we didn't get more than 50 yards from home (she usually will briskly walk at least a half mile). The vet said it may take weeks to get her back to where she was but she's clearly at about 80-85%, whereas the day prior she was at about 10% and failing quickly.

This was an unexpected expense and luckily the vet was able to keep the bill below $1000.  Please help us by making a donation for her care at macspro.org/donate.

MACSPRO Update - July 2016

Meet Clara

Meet Clara, a stray from Maryland. We do not know much about her yet, but she is calm, quiet, and aloof.  She enjoys getting attention, although she acts like she is not used to it, and treats. She has been walked near other dogs in the kennel and doesn’t seem to mind them. She will need to be spayed, and we would love to find a foster home for her after she arrives next week. For more information about fostering, check out our website.

Tryke says thank you!! Grab your t-shirts to Save a Pei

Tryke's medical needs have been covered by donations sent by YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! We still have other vet, kennel, etc bills to be paid, so continued donations for those items are always welcome! But, thank you again for helping us help Tryke!!

MACSPRO launched a T-shirt campaign earlier this month and all proceeds will go towards helping our pei. There is just over a week left to grab a shirt so make sure to put your order in today to show your support!

Peanut and Cooper are two great dogs who are in need of foster or furever homes. Peanut is the perfect apartment size guy and needs some TLC to help him come out of his fearful shell. Cooper is a sweet guy who loves to run around and play with toys.

Will you help Tryke?

Tryke was picked up with another dog in Northern New Jersey. Their owner came back and claimed the other dog but left Tryke because he is a senior guy and had a serious injury leaving him with a very bad limp.   He was dehydrated, malnourished and hopping around on his damaged hip.The northern NJ shelter is probably one of the worst shelters to be left in.  He was in immediate danger of euthanasia.

MACSPRO rallied, and with help from Shar Pei lovers in New Jersey, Maryland and North Carolina, Tryke was taken immediately to a vet in Northern NJ, given good food and fluids. Blood work was performed and he was updated on all shots needed.  This poor neglected Pei was then transported to his foster mom in North Carolina.
Under foster mom’s care, Tryke has started to recover.  He is gaining weight and feeling better.  But his limp is so severe that foster mom took him to her vet. X-rays were performed and it was determined that the ball of the hip is totally out of place.  It is very painful.  You would never know though!  He is a very happy boy, enjoying the attention, food and love he is finally getting.

But MACSPRO needs your help!
Surgery estimates are over $800 to correct his hip so he can walk normally and live pain-free.  Won’t you help us help Tryke?  Help him live the rest of his life in warmth and comfort?
Tax deductible donations are greatly appreciated, and can be made by check to Mid-Atlantic Chinese Shar-Pei Rescue Operation, Inc and  sent to MACSPRO at P.O. Box 34034 Bethesda, MD 20827.  OR they can be made via Pay Pal.  Be sure to mark “For Tryke”

A flyer has been attached for you to print and share.

Meet Ike, our newest Senior Member of MACSPRO.

Ike

Over the weekend, we pulled Ike from a shelter in New Jersey.  He's a senior pei that is very skinny but that hasn't hindered his ability to be incredibly sweet.  We are very thankful for Laurie Davis' help in pulling him and getting him to a vet.  He is currently in isolation, getting fluids and caught up on his vaccinations.  We will soon be transporting him to his foster family in North Carolina.

We are able to help out dogs like Ike thanks to donations from generous donors.  We currently have several pei at the kennel that need fosters.  If you are interested in fostering any of our available pei, please fill out an application.

If you are unable to help foster, financial contributions of any size would be greatly appreciated, with the current funds, we are unable to keep up with the needs of our current pei.  You are able to donate online or via check. Your checks can be sent directly to:
Mid-Atlantic Chinese Shar-Pei Rescue Operation, Inc.
